Sutton Church of England Secondary School Application Announcement
The Southwark Diocesan Board of Education submitted an application to establish a new 11-19 co-educational school to the Department for Education in March this year. The school was being proposed to help meet the growing need for additional high quality secondary places in the Sutton area and also to give families additional choice of a high quality education with Christian values and strong pastoral care for their children.
Today the Board received the disappointing news that their application had been unsuccessful. Colin Powell from Southwark Diocesan Board of Education said:
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have to announce that the Department for Education will not be taking our application further. At this moment we haven’t received any detailed feedback. The support from parents for Sutton CofE Secondary School has been overwhelming and humbling. We know the local community in Sutton are very passionate and care very much about their children and their education and we are very sorry we will not be able to make this vision become a reality. We wish to thank the hundreds of families who really got behind our application, and all those in the community that voiced their support for the School.”
The Department for Education may provide further feedback on the reasons behind their decision and this information will be added to the school’s website at www.suttoncofesecondaryschool.org.uk
