An application to establish the Sutton Church of England Secondary School, a new 11-19 co-educational school, was declined by the Department for Education in September 2016. However, their feedback was very positive and we are much encouraged to re-apply in the next round which we expect will be submitted in the spring 2018. We are waiting for new information to be published by the Department to confirm details about the application process and timescales.
The support that we received for our first application from families and schools in Sutton was overwhelming, and there is clearly strong demand for a Church of England Secondary School in the community.
The new school is being proposed by the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE) multi-academy trust to give parents more choice and diversity for a high quality education with Christian values and strong pastoral care for their children.
If our plan is approved, we hope to open in September 2020 with six Year 7 classes (180 places) and admit the same number of Year 7 pupils each year thereafter, reaching full capacity of 1,150 pupils including 250 in the sixth-form. Sutton Church of England Secondary School will be free to attend and will be highly inclusive, have a distinctive Christian character and will offer its students the opportunity to grow and develop within a broad and balanced curriculum framework under-pinned by Christian values.
There are currently no state co-educational Church of England secondary schools in the area, and the new school will no doubt provide an excellent continuation of learning for children in the Church of England family of Sutton primary schools, as well as those families of other faiths and no faith who wish to see their children success in a safe and secure inclusive environment.
Sutton Church of England Secondary School’s proposed curriculum will be broad and balanced, and will have a focus on Health Sciences and Care Studies.
You can help make this happen! The plans for Sutton Church of England Secondary School will only become a reality with the support of the community. In our application to the Department for Education, we need to demonstrate the level of support for the school, particularly of parents with child(ren) due to start secondary school from September 2020.
If you are a parent of a child for whom you would consider Sutton Church of England Secondary School, please register your support.
If you do not have a child starting secondary school from 2020 or beyond but support this proposed school, please email us at email@example.com
Thank you – your support will help make our vision for Sutton Church of England Secondary School a reality.
